Facebook users spend 7 hours on average

My wife and I now often say, "We don't need TV, we have Internet!" and we celebrated our wedding anniversary morning logged on Facebook. :)

It looks like this is becoming a trend for everyone else (the spending on Facebook, not necessarily during anniversaries). A recent Neilsen survey reveals that Facebook users spend an average of 7 hours monthly on the social networking site. (Read Nielsen story).

Facebook is now number two in terms of amount of global internet traffic, second only to Google. It beats even YouTube and Yahoo. (Read Alexa story).

Note that 7 hours is on average. This means you may not be spending that much time on it, but that also means someone else is spending *more* time on it.

Just to put things in more perspective: the next in rank to hours spent are Google and Yahoo, but each is only getting an average of 2 hours (compared to Facebook's 7). You can look at Facebook now as the best time-waster humans have ever invented. Or you can see potential in it for business, marketing and social change.
