Communication is key to the survival and propogation of the Order. This was the overarching goal of the Titus Brandsma Center's Deputy Director Bro. Arnulfo Alindayu, O.Carm, when he approached Digital Solutions to assist him in setting up the Order of Carmelites website in early 2007.
He wanted to use web technology not only to create an online presence for the Order, but to assist its members -- who are spread far and wide across so many countries -- to communicate better. According to Bro. Arnold, bringing high council members and project groups together would require so much effort and expense because they had to meet physically to communicate plans to each of the Order's satellite groups all over the world.
One of the 800-year old Order's pivotal missions is to update and disseminate their catechism pamphlets and letters. Order members from all over the world need to read and re-write these texts every year. "This project has been in progress for over ten years," says Bro. Arnold. "But with web technology, and our website, I'm sure this will move faster now and will facilitate easier, quicker communication among the Order members."
Bro. Arnold decided to use Drupal as the CMS engine for the Order of Carmelites website (http://carmelitespirituality.info). Having some knowledge in open source systems, Bro. Arnold found Drupal the most suitable CMS engine for them. Digital Solutions helped Bro. Arnold set up the system, plug in the design and organize their content taxonomy. At the Carmelite Communication day last September 22, the website was showcased as one of the Order's latest achievements in the advocacy of new media and mass media literacy.
Digital Solutions joined the event as a partner and exhibitor, where Ruben Canlas Jr., CEO of Digital Solutions gave a presentation about the use of Web 2.0 technologie for knowledge sharing and community building.
